POTASH FELDSPAR

Potassium Feldspar is the most abundant group of minerals in the Earth’s crust. Their use in industrial applications is widespread. In fact, feldspar can be found in a great many objects we use on a daily basis.

The term feldspar refers to a group of alumino-silicate minerals which make up over half of the earth’s crust.

Valued for their high alumina and alkali content.

Zillion feldspars are used across a range of industrial applications including:

Ceramics:  Feldspar is a main vitrifying or fluxing agent used during the firing process of ceramic bodies. Fluxes melt at an early stage in the firing process forming a glassy matrix that bonds the other components of the system together, ensuring the durability of fired bodies. Zillion feldspars contain low levels of coloured oxides, so they are particularly prized for white tiles and sanitary ware production

Glass: Feldspars is an excellent fluxing agent for flat and container glass, as well as for insulation wools. Feldspar is an excellent source of alumina which improves end product hardness, durability, and resistance to chemical corrosion.

Coatings & Polymers: As a functional filler and extender with a relatively high Mohs hardness (6), low electrical conductivity, good dispensability and chemical inertness.

The major deposits of Feldspar in India are located in the States of Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan.

  • Best for Ceramic & Sanitary Ware Manufacturing – Application in both Glaze (K2O > 11.5%) & Body (K2O >10.5%) – gives White Firing Colour.
  • Glass Grades – better fluxing from K2O > 10% (total alkalies > 13%), Alumina > 17% for strength, Low Iron Fe2O3 at < 0.5%.
  • High Potash K2O >11% for Flux coated Welding Electrodes.
